Spring Time in Finland : Winter is slowly turning to spring, the axis of the Earth is increasing its tilt relative to the sun and the length of daylight rapidly increases. Snow begins to melt and streams swell with runoff. This is still good season for Skiing, Skating and ice-fishing! Nature awakens after winter, many of the migratory birds are busy moving back to Finland and bird-life starts to be noisy, animals stop hibernating. Days are growing longer than nights and nature prepares for intensive growing season, temperature is mainly between -5 - 9 degrees C.

Korkeasaari is one of the world’s oldest Zoos, founded in 1889! Famous with Snow Leopards, Amur tigers and many others, all together 150 (+ more than 1000 plant species). The Zoo is famous for its active work towards preserving biodiversity. They breed endangered species and participate in programs that aim to re-introduce the animals to their natural habitats. Helsinki Zoo is very well known for its work to help endangered big cats. For example snow leopards have had more cubs than in any other zoo. Helsinki Zoo is also the biggest annual donor for the endangered Amur leopard and tiger protection in the world.

Ancient marks of the ice ages. It is located on the border between two bedrock areas of different ages. Originally almost as high as the Himalayas. Today only the hardest rock material, quartzite, Upheavals – 2.6 billion years!
The cliffs of Koli provide tangible examples of the movements of ancient testonic plates, formation of mountain chains and remaining. Koli is the oldest bedrock in Finland – more than 2.6 billion years – for the most parts granite-gneiss. In younger slates, mainly pale quartzite rock is crossed by dark dikes of igneous rocks that are the hardened outlet channels for the lava from ancient volcanoes.
Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry is responsible e.g. for forests, environment, climate, wildlife, water and fisheries, but also for bioeconomy. Long term legislative work with practical guidelines has made Finnish Forestry a success story. http://mmm.fi/en/frontpage |

The annual increment of Finnish forests (99 million m3) exceeds the drain by about 25 million m3. The annual roundwood removals from commercial forests total about 64 million m3. Silviculture speeds up the growth of commercial forests and improves the quality of the stand. The growth of a new generation of trees gets off to a good start through artificial or natural regeneration.

The method combines ArboLiDAR technology with satellite imagery and field sample plots.

Everyman's right gives the right of access to move freely and pick mushrooms and berries in all Finnish forests regardless of who owns them. No specific permits are required for recreational use of the nature. Restrictions on the activities allowed are laid down by law.
